Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian painter, architect, sculptor, scientist 
and inventor. Born April 15, 1452, near the town of Vinci. His parents were 
Piero, a 25-year-old notary, and a peasant woman named Caterina. 
Because he was illegitimate child he had no last name, his full name was 
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (Leonardo, son of Mr. Piero from Vinci).
