Abbott Handerson Thayer, Self-Portrait 1920.
Abbott Handerson Thayer was an American painter, naturalist 
and teacher. He made a notable contribution to the theory 
and practice of military camouflage through observations 
of camouflage coloration of animals and birds. The principle 
of camouflage he developed is called Countershading or 
Thayer's Law.
Depicts the artist's daughter and sons. The painting is an 
allusion to the votive monument of the Winged Victory of 
Samothrace, which was found on the island of 
Samothrace, in Greece.
